Overview: During a visit to Japan, I documented and produced a video project showcasing the story of Yūki’s Airbnb—a renovated 100-year-old abandoned home (Akiya) in the mountains of Gifu. This creative project was designed to highlight the broader issue of vacant homes in Japan and the cultural significance of their revitalisation.
Objective: Create a compelling visual narrative through motion graphics and video production to raise awareness about the increasing number of Akiya in Japan and inspire younger generations to reconnect with rural areas.
Approach:
Video Production:
Captured on-location footage to showcase the transformed abandoned house into a functional Airbnb.
Conducted an interview with Yūki to bring a personal and authentic voice to the story.
Illustrations/Motion Graphics:
Integrated motion graphics to reinforce key points.
Illustrated overlays like maps and text to contextualise the location, and provide a low-fi feeling style to contrast the scenes
Storytelling:
Crafted a narrative arc that combined Yūki’s personal journey with broader societal trends.
Edited the footage into a cohesive video, emphasising a balance between emotional resonance and informative content.
Key Results:
Engagement: The video effectively connected viewers with the cultural and personal significance of the project, driving conversations about rural revitalisation.
Skills Demonstrated: Showcased expertise in video production, illustration, motion graphics, and storytelling to create a visually compelling and meaningful project.
